Warriors Triumph as Moses Moody Impresses Against Pelicans

The Golden State Warriors celebrated a commanding 124-106 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday evening, thanks to an outstanding performance by Moses Moody. The young star scored 32 points and began the game with a record-tying seven three-pointers in the first quarter, setting the tone for the night and allowing the Warriors to seize control early.

It was a challenging debut for James Borrego as the interim head coach of the Pelicans. The team struggled defensively, enabling the Warriors to capitalize on every opportunity. Stephen Curry, who typically leads the scoring, didn't tally his first basket until the third quarter, but the rest of the team maintained a confident approach throughout the game.

Curry had just come off two impressive games in San Antonio, scoring 46 and 49 points. However, the Pelicans made stopping him a priority, leading to a tough night with Curry finishing with only nine points from 2-for-11 shooting. In the midst of this struggle, Moody rose to the occasion, taking over the scoring responsibility with confidence.

After initially trailing 6-2, the game shifted dramatically with Moody's first three-pointer at 9:53 in the first quarter. He followed up with four more threes within minutes, ultimately building a significant 23-9 lead for his team. By the end of the first quarter, Moody had tallied an incredible 21 points.

Moody's first-quarter shooting was stellar, hitting 7-of-8 from beyond the arc, just one three-pointer shy of Kevin Love's record for most in a quarter. This performance placed him among only eight players in NBA history to hit seven or more threes in a first quarter, joining the likes of Curry and Klay Thompson.

In total, Moody finished the game with eight three-pointers from 12 attempts, setting a new career high, surpassing his previous best of 30 points. His performance kept the Warriors firmly in control throughout the evening.

The Warriors also received crucial contributions from the team. Jimmy Butler III recorded a double-double with 18 points and 10 assists, maintaining offensive flow despite Curry's struggles. Brandin Podziemski added 19 points from the bench, further enhancing the Warriors' scoring efforts. Buddy Hield chipped in with 11 points, while Draymond Green had a solid defensive outing with 10 rebounds, alongside eight points, six assists, and two steals.

On the Pelicans’ side, Trey Murphy III was the top scorer with 20 points, supported by Jose Alvarado with 18 points, Jeremiah Fears with 17, and Saddiq Bey with 11. Despite their efforts, the Pelicans fell behind significantly after the first quarter and could never regain control, resulting in their fifth straight defeat.

The Warriors, on the other hand, celebrated their third consecutive win while on a challenging six-game road trip. Moody’s breakout game has proven that the Warriors possess multiple scoring threats, ensuring they remain competitive even when their star player is off night.
