Mubadala Energy and PLN Energi Primer Indonesia (PLN EPI), a key part of Indonesia’s national electricity supplier, have signed a Heads of Agreement (HoA) to supply gas from fields in the Andaman Sea. This new agreement is an important step for Indonesia’s future energy plans, especially as the country works to improve its energy security and reduce dependence on imported fuel.
The main goal of this partnership is to strengthen Indonesia’s energy resilience. By working together, Mubadala Energy and PLN EPI hope to reduce the country’s reliance on LNG imports and use more natural gas from local sources. The agreement also focuses on finding long-term and sustainable solutions to support Indonesia’s growing energy needs.
The HoA highlights that gas supply for North Sumatra and Aceh will be prioritised. One major part of this plan is the Tangkulo gas field, located about 65 kilometres from North Sumatra. The field contains more than 2 trillion cubic feet (TCF) of gas, making it an important resource for meeting Indonesia’s future energy demands.
Abdulla Bu Ali, President Director of Mubadala Energy Indonesia, said the agreement shows the company’s strong commitment to Indonesia. He explained that this partnership will help deliver reliable and sustainable energy solutions for the country. He also said the deal is a major step forward in developing the Tangkulo gas project in the South Andaman Sea.
Indonesia is currently working to improve its energy infrastructure and diversify its supply sources. This partnership combines Mubadala Energy’s international experience with PLN EPI’s strong local presence. Together, they aim to ensure a steady and sustainable energy supply for millions of Indonesians in the long run.
Rakhmad Dewanto, President Director of PLN EPI, welcomed the development of the Tangkulo gas field. He said this partnership will support Indonesia’s power sector and help the country move toward cleaner and more secure energy sources.
The signing was witnessed by the Chairman of SKK Migas, Djoko Siswanto, who said the agreement marks a major milestone in developing the Tangkulo Project. The HoA will guide future discussions on technical and commercial details and strengthen both companies’ role in securing Indonesia’s energy future.
