In a standout display on Monday night, the Denver Nuggets secured a 125-115 victory against the Memphis Grizzlies, halting Memphis’ two-game winning streak. Key contributions from Jamal Murray, Peyton Watson, and Nikola Jokic were pivotal, especially in the critical moments of the fourth quarter.
Murray was the star of the evening with 29 points, demonstrating his sharpshooting ability and delivering crucial baskets in the game's final stretches. Watson shone brightly as well, scoring 27 points and showcasing intelligent plays, including several critical three-pointers. Meanwhile, Jokic delivered another one of his signature performances, notching a triple-double with 17 points, 16 assists, and 10 rebounds, guiding the Nuggets with his playmaking skills.
A significant factor in Denver's victory was their exceptional shooting performance. The Nuggets drained 22 three-pointers—setting a seasonal record—and maintained control even as the Grizzlies attempted to close the gap. Murray sank six shots from beyond the arc, while Watson followed closely with five, boosting the Nuggets' confidence throughout the game.
Memphis showed determination in the second half. The Nuggets had built a 108-91 lead early in the fourth after Cam Johnson executed a four-point play, but the Grizzlies mounted a fierce 12-0 response, tightening their defense and finding strong offensive opportunities, which shrunk the deficit to only five points.
Despite the surge from Memphis, Denver maintained their composure. Murray hit two vital three-pointers in the last four minutes, and Jokic delivered a stunning behind-the-back bounce pass to Watson for an easy layup, putting the Nuggets ahead 121-112. This moment not only highlighted Jokic’s unique passing skills but also effectively sealed the win for the Nuggets.
On the Grizzlies' side, Jock Landale made a significant impact off the bench, posting a career-high 26 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. His effort kept Memphis competitive throughout the matchup. Jaylen Wells contributed 22 points, while Cam Spencer added 18 points, helping the Grizzlies despite Denver’s dominant play.
A setback for Memphis came when Zach Edey exited the game due to a head injury after an accidental collision with Jokic in the first quarter. Edey’s absence was felt, making defensive efforts more challenging for the Grizzlies.
Fortunately, the Grizzlies welcomed back Jaren Jackson Jr., who added 16 points after missing two games with an ankle injury but couldn’t offset Denver’s comprehensive approach.
Aaron Gordon's absence for the Nuggets, who is recovering from a right hamstring strain, was notable. Nevertheless, the team exhibited strong synergy and resilience, reiterating their standing as one of the league's formidable teams.
With this victory, the Nuggets improved their overall record and momentum, while the Grizzlies now turn their focus to regrouping for their next matchup.
