UAE Coach Olaroiu Says Red Card Shifted Match Against Jordan

UAE Coach Olaroiu Says Red Card Shifted Match Against Jordan

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

UAE head coach Cosmin Olaroiu shared his disappointment after his team lost 2-1 to Jordan in their opening match of the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025. The game took place at Al Bayt Stadium as part of Group C, and it turned into a difficult challenge for the UAE after an early turning point.

During the post-match press conference, Olaroiu explained that the match started evenly, with both sides trying to control the tempo. However, things changed quickly when the referee awarded a penalty to Jordan and sent off a UAE player. According to the coach, this moment completely shifted the momentum and made the rest of the match more complicated for his team.

Olaroiu said the penalty decision was correct, but he strongly believed that the red card was too harsh. He described the dismissal as an unnecessary punishment that left the UAE with a numerical disadvantage. This situation forced the team to play more defensively, making it difficult to build attacks or pressure Jordan in the same way as before.

Despite his concerns over the referee’s call, the coach acknowledged that Jordan deserved their victory. He praised the Jordanian team for taking advantage of the extra player on the field and for showing strong organisation throughout the match. He noted that once Jordan gained confidence after the penalty, they controlled key moments of the game and managed the match well.

Olaroiu stressed that the UAE players still gave their best effort, even after going down to ten men. He said the team fought hard and tried to stay competitive despite the difficult circumstances. He also appreciated the players’ attitude and determination, saying they continued to push and tried to find opportunities to get back into the match.

Looking forward, the UAE coach expressed confidence that his team can recover quickly. He said the squad has strong spirit and the ability to bounce back, especially since this was just the first match of the group stage. Olaroiu encouraged the players to stay focused and prepare for the upcoming games, which he believes they can still win.

He added that the loss, although disappointing, should motivate the team to improve. The coach emphasised the importance of correcting mistakes, staying mentally strong, and approaching the next match with a fresh mindset. He also called on supporters to continue backing the team, promising that the UAE will return stronger.

The UAE team will now shift its attention to the next fixture, where they aim to secure their first points in the competition. With the group stage still open, Olaroiu believes that the team remains capable of progressing further in the FIFA Arab Cup.

Throughout his remarks, Olaroiu highlighted key moments of the match, the impact of the red card, and the need to keep moving forward. As the tournament continues, the UAE hopes to regain momentum and show better control, discipline, and confidence in upcoming games.
