Charles Oliveira has cleared up fan uncertainty about a potential January clash with Max Holloway for the BMF title, announcing that the rematch is on the horizon but won’t happen just yet.
The ex-UFC lightweight champ, who recently marked his return to the Octagon with a submission victory over Mateusz Gamrot in Rio de Janeiro, shared on Instagram that talks are in progress, but an official date is not confirmed. “Look, there’s nothing confirmed on my fight with Max Holloway in January,” Oliveira mentioned. “I’m enjoying vacation time with my family... It definitely won’t be in January. But this fight will take place. I want it, he wants it, and you want it too.”
Oliveira first showed his interest in the rematch after a narrow defeat in a vacant title match against Ilia Topuria earlier this year. Conversely, Holloway has not been in the Octagon since defending his BMF title against Dustin Poirier in July, following a loss in the featherweight division to Topuria late last year.
The two fighters previously clashed in August 2015 during a 145-pound match that ended abruptly in just 99 seconds due to a freak neck injury sustained by Oliveira. Both fighters have since ascended to championship-level status within the UFC, making the awaited rematch a must-watch for fans around the globe.
Oliveira indicated that more details may be forthcoming, with March or April emerging as potential months for the event. With both fighters eager to settle the score, UFC enthusiasts are looking forward to what promises to be an exhilarating rematch for one of the organization’s most prized belts.
