Oman-Korea MoU to Boost Cooperation on Green Development

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

The Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Korea have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen bilateral relations and boost cooperation in environment, climate change, and sustainable development. The agreement was signed during the Seventh United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-7) held in Nairobi, Kenya.

The MoU aims to create a long-term partnership based on equality and shared interests, focusing on protecting the environment and ensuring the well-being of current and future generations. It encourages joint actions at both bilateral and international levels to address growing global environmental challenges, highlighting the commitment of both countries to a stronger environmental partnership.

Oman was represented by Dr. Abdullah bin Ali Al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority, while Korea was represented by Kum Hanseung, Vice Minister of Climate, Energy, and Environment.

Key areas of collaboration include managing air quality, water resources, and pollution, protecting biodiversity, combating desertification, promoting the circular economy and waste management, developing climate change solutions including carbon reduction technologies, and supporting the transition to a green economy with initiatives like hydrogen and green buildings.

The MoU also specifies practical ways of cooperation, including exchanging information and experts, staff training, developing joint projects, and organizing seminars and workshops. These initiatives are expected to strengthen knowledge sharing and technical expertise between the two countries, supporting sustainable growth and environmental resilience.
