Oman Hackathon Sets Guinness Record in Digital Transformation

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

The Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth in Oman has proudly announced that its “Brmajan” Digital Transformation Hackathon has made history on a global level. The event has entered the Guinness World Records for being both the longest government-led digital transformation hackathon and the largest multi-site hackathon lesson ever organized worldwide. This achievement places Oman on the global map of innovation and digital development.

What is the Brmajan Hackathon?

The “Brmajan” Hackathon is a major technology and creativity event that brings together young people, experts, and professionals to design and develop digital solutions. It is organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth to help advance the government’s efforts in digital transformation. Digital transformation refers to the process of using new technologies to improve services, make work easier, and bring positive changes to both government institutions and the community.

Main Venues of the Event

The hackathon was held in two main locations to allow more people to participate and experience the event. The National Museum and the main hall at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher served as the central venues. Both venues welcomed hundreds of young innovators who gathered to show their skills and creativity. The presence of Sayyid Said Sultan Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth for Culture, added great value to the occasion, showing the government’s strong support for young people in technology.

Participation of Young Innovators

More than 250 young participants from different parts of Oman joined the hackathon. These participants included programmers, software developers, user experience designers, and business analysts. They came together to solve important challenges, design digital tools, and create innovative solutions that could help government institutions improve their services. This large participation reflects the high level of interest among Omani youth in technology and innovation.

Official Statement from the Project Manager

Sultan Mohsen Al Subhi, the Project Manager of the hackathon, expressed his happiness about this global recognition. He said that this achievement is not only a record but also a clear proof of Oman’s efforts in developing digital services. According to him, winning a Guinness World Record serves as a strong message to the world that Oman is serious about digital transformation. He also added that this achievement can act as a marketing tool to promote government initiatives and show their importance to both local and international audiences.

Importance of the Guinness Recognition

The Guinness World Record recognition means much more than just a title. It brings international attention to Oman and highlights its role in using technology for positive change. It shows that the country is moving forward in creating modern digital services that benefit the people. Such recognition also helps to send out positive messages about the importance of digital transformation for governments everywhere.

Empowering Omani Youth

One of the main goals of the “Brmajan” Hackathon is to empower young Omanis by giving them the chance to use their creativity, ideas, and technical knowledge. The Ministry believes that the youth of Oman are capable of creating unique digital solutions that can help solve real problems. By participating in the hackathon, young people gain experience, learn new skills, and build confidence in their ability to contribute to the future of their country.

Community Engagement and Participation

The hackathon was not only about competition but also about involving the whole community in digital transformation. It encouraged participants to work on ideas that could directly improve the daily lives of citizens. For example, solutions might include new ways to access government services online, systems to make communication faster, or apps that improve cultural and social activities. This direct connection between youth creativity and community benefit makes the hackathon even more meaningful.

Launch and Duration of the Event

The “Brmajan” Hackathon officially started on 21 July. From that day onwards, participants took part in a wide range of activities that combined both training and competition. The event lasted long enough to set a new Guinness World Record, making it the longest event of its type ever held. During this time, the participants engaged in learning sessions, practical challenges, and group tasks designed to bring out their best skills.

Training Sessions and Technical Challenges

To help participants improve their knowledge, the hackathon offered special training sessions on digital skills and tools. These sessions were designed to guide participants in understanding the real-world challenges of digital transformation. Technical challenges were also included to push participants to think creatively and find innovative solutions. Each challenge required teamwork, problem-solving skills, and creative thinking.

Bringing Together Different Skills

What made the event unique was the variety of talents that came together. It was not only programmers or coders who joined. User experience designers, who focus on making digital tools easy and enjoyable for people to use, were also part of the event. Business analysts, who understand the needs of organizations and suggest solutions, also contributed. By combining these different skills, the hackathon created strong teams capable of developing solutions that were both practical and creative.

Role of the Ministry

The Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth played a central role in making this hackathon successful. It provided the resources, guidance, and platforms needed to host such a large-scale event. The Ministry sees digital transformation as one of its key missions, and through events like this, it encourages youth to take part in shaping the future of Oman. This hackathon is part of the Ministry’s wider efforts to prepare Oman for the digital era.

Promoting Digital Initiatives Globally

According to the organizers, the hackathon is also an effective way to promote Oman’s digital initiatives to the rest of the world. By achieving a Guinness World Record, the event has attracted global attention. It shows that Oman is not only keeping up with digital change but also leading in certain areas. This recognition can inspire other countries to hold similar events and learn from Oman’s example.

Inspiring the Future of Digital Oman

The success of “Brmajan” Hackathon sends a strong message to Omani youth and the wider society: innovation, creativity, and technology can shape the future. It demonstrates that young people are not just the leaders of tomorrow but are already contributing today. By giving them the chance to take part in such important events, Oman is building a strong foundation for a digital future that benefits everyone.

The “Brmajan” Digital Transformation Hackathon is more than just a competition. It is a symbol of Oman’s commitment to progress, youth empowerment, and global recognition. By setting a Guinness World Record, the hackathon has brought pride to the nation and opened new opportunities for innovation. It has also shown the world that Oman is ready to embrace digital transformation and make it a key part of its growth and development.
