India’s official selection for the 98th Academy Awards, Homebound, is set for its digital debut on Netflix on November 21.

Directed by Neeraj Ghaywan and produced through Dharma Productions, the film stars Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa, and Janhvi Kapoor in lead roles. The project is backed by notable figures including Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra, with Martin Scorsese and Pravin Khairnar serving as executive producers, and Marijke deSouza and Melita Toscan du Plantier as co-producers.

The narrative centers on childhood friends Shoaib (Khatter) and Chandan (Jethwa), who share an aspiration of becoming police officers. Janhvi Kapoor delivers a crucial emotional performance as the film examines themes of friendship, duty, and the various challenges confronted by the youth in India.

Neeraj Ghaywan noted that the film’s arrival on Netflix is a significant milestone following its favorable reception at film festivals. He characterized Homebound as a tale inspired by real events, emphasizing connection and compassion as essential elements of quiet resistance.

Karan Johar described the film as intimate and complex, expressing his delight that it will now reach audiences worldwide via the streaming platform.

The film attracted considerable international interest during its festival circuit, premiering in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival 2025 and later featuring at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it claimed the Second Runner-Up position for the International Audience Choice Award.

Homebound will start streaming exclusively on Netflix from November 21.
