Mac McClung Joins Indiana Pacers on Multi-Year NBA Deal

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

Mac McClung, known for his incredible leaping ability and three straight NBA Slam Dunk Contest titles, has officially joined the Indiana Pacers on a multi-year contract. The 26-year-old guard’s signing was reported by ESPN on Monday, marking a major career step for the player who has long been admired for his athleticism and highlight-reel plays. While the deal is nonguaranteed, it is McClung’s first standard NBA contract after several short-term opportunities with other teams.

This signing represents a new chapter for McClung, who has worked hard to earn a stable place in the NBA. Over the past few years, he has become a household name because of his dunking prowess, but consistent playing time in the league had eluded him. McClung has played in just six NBA games between 2021 and 2025 for four different teams — the Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers, Philadelphia 76ers, and Orlando Magic. Despite limited minutes, he made the most of his chances, averaging 5.5 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game in 12.7 minutes of play.

To make space for McClung on the roster, the Indiana Pacers have decided to waive former No. 2 overall draft pick James Wiseman. Wiseman, 24, was once considered one of the brightest young prospects in the NBA, but his career has been slowed by injuries and inconsistency. He had just made his season debut on Saturday, scoring four points in 20 minutes during a 128-103 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies. However, the Pacers are looking for immediate depth in their backcourt, and McClung’s arrival is expected to address that need.

Indiana’s roster has been hit hard by injuries early in the season, especially among its guards. Bennedict Mathurin is recovering from a foot injury, and Andrew Nembhard is sidelined with a shoulder issue. Both players are listed as day-to-day. Additionally, forward Obi Toppin is also dealing with a leg problem, while veteran point guard T.J. McConnell continues his recovery from a hamstring injury sustained before the season began. The biggest setback, however, is the loss of All-Star Tyrese Haliburton, who is expected to miss the entire season due to an Achilles injury.

McClung’s signing provides Indiana with a burst of energy and athleticism that could lift the team’s spirits amid injury troubles. His ability to play both shooting guard and point guard positions makes him a flexible option for the Pacers’ rotation. Although he is best known for his spectacular dunks, McClung has also improved his ball-handling and shooting skills, proving that he can contribute beyond highlight plays. His competitive attitude and determination have made him a fan favorite wherever he has played.

Before signing with the Pacers, McClung spent much of his professional career in the NBA G League, where he consistently impressed with his scoring and playmaking. He was named the G League Rookie of the Year in 2022 while playing for the South Bay Lakers. His success in the developmental league kept him on the radar of several NBA teams, and his performances in summer leagues and preseason games further showed his readiness for a permanent roster spot.

Joining the Pacers offers McClung a real chance to prove that he belongs in the NBA full-time. Indiana’s current injury situation means he could see immediate playing time, giving him an opportunity to showcase his all-around game. Fans are excited to see whether McClung can translate his high-flying energy into consistent contributions on both ends of the floor.

For McClung, this deal is not just a contract—it is a reward for years of hard work and perseverance. His journey from small-town beginnings to the NBA spotlight continues to inspire young athletes worldwide.
