Pakistani-American Student Detained for Alleged University Shooting Plot

Post by : Raina Al-Fahim

Luqmaan Khan, a 25-year-old Pakistani-American, has been apprehended in the United States for allegedly orchestrating a mass shooting at the University of Delaware. A concerning cache of weapons, ammunition, body armor, and a comprehensive manifesto detailing his intentions to “kill all” and achieve “martyrdom” was revealed by the US Department of Justice (DoJ).

Khan, a resident of the US since childhood, was arrested on November 24 after police found him parked in a public park after curfew. A search of his pickup truck uncovered a .357 caliber Glock pistol loaded with 27 rounds in a microplastic conversion kit, effectively converting it into a semi-automatic firearm. Officers also discovered three additional loaded magazines, a Glock 9mm magazine, a ballistic vest, and a notebook with elaborate attack strategies.

In the detailed notebook, Khan discussed weaponry, attack methods, and tactics to avoid law enforcement. It included references to a University of Delaware Police Department member by name and sketches of the building's layout with marked entry and exit points labeled “UD Police Station.” According to ABC 6, the notebook contained repetitive phrases like “kill all” and “martyrdom,” leading authorities to classify the contents as “premeditated assault plans” and evident “warfare techniques.”

While Khan's motive remains ambiguous, he reportedly stated to the police that being a martyr was “one of the greatest things you can do.” Post-arrest, the FBI raided Khan’s Wilmington home, confiscating an AR-style rifle with a red-dot scope, a second Glock altered into a fully automatic firearm capable of discharging 1,200 rounds per minute, eleven extended magazines, hollow-point bullets, and another bulletproof vest. None of the firearms were registered.

On November 26, Khan faced formal charges for illegal possession of a machine gun and remains in custody as federal inquiries progress. Authorities underscore the severity of the situation, given the quantity of weapons amassed and the meticulous planning of the alleged plot.

This incident has raised alarms regarding campus safety and the looming threat of armed attacks in the US, reinforcing the necessity for proactive law enforcement and vigilant monitoring of potential threats.
