Paquetá Critiques FA Following Red Card Incident Against Liverpool

Post by : Meena Hassan

West Ham's Lucas Paquetá expressed his frustration following his red card in a 2–0 loss to Liverpool, accusing the Football Association of failing to support him during an extensive investigation that loomed over his career.

The midfielder received a red card in the latter half after two quick yellow cards for dissent, a reaction that seemed to unleash pent-up emotions he had been managing for quite a while.

Paquetá faced two years of scrutiny as the FA investigated claims he deliberately sought bookings linked to suspicious betting activities. Although he was exonerated in July, the drawn-out inquiry hindered a key transfer opportunity and left a significant mark on his mental health.

Post-match, the 28-year-old took to social media to convey the deep impact the experience has had on him.

“Living with everything that’s happened in my life and mind is tough,” he wrote. “I will keep trying to ensure it doesn’t affect me further. This doesn’t excuse my red card, and I apologize to my teammates and fans.”

His frustration escalated when a commentator referred to his actions as “ridiculous.” Paquetá responded by indicating that his behavior on the pitch was a direct result of the immense pressure endured during the protracted investigation.

“It’s absurd to have your life and profession influenced for two years without psychological support from the federation,” he stated. “Perhaps my response is a manifestation of all I’ve been through. I apologize if I’m not perfect.”

West Ham is anticipated to discuss the midfielder's suspension later this week.
