Prabowo Subianto Maintains High Approval Rating Despite Challenges

Post by : Bianca Haleem

Jakarta – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto continues to enjoy significant public favor, with a notable 78% of citizens supporting his leadership, despite facing economic difficulties and widespread student protests over the past year.

According to a recent poll conducted by the independent firm Indikator Politik Indonesia, only 20.8% reported being dissatisfied with his administration. His anti-corruption initiatives, social welfare programs, and especially the free meals initiative for children—now a priority of his presidency—were major factors behind his solid approval ratings.

However, not every aspect of his governance is viewed positively. His management of political matters earned the lowest approval rate, resting at just 31%. Additionally, Prabowo faced backlash due to an expanded military presence in civil affairs and recent issues in the free meals program, where reports of illness among children have emerged. Economic performance is also a concern, with the growth rate slowing to 5.04% in the third quarter, falling short of the government's goal of 5.2%.

Despite these hurdles, a significant segment of the population appreciates the measurable benefits stemming from Prabowo's social initiatives, particularly in combatting corruption and aiding disadvantaged groups. The president's robust approval ratings reflect a public inclination towards practical results over political instability.
