Call for Prince Andrew to Testify in Epstein Investigation

Post by : Raina Al-Fahim

Prince Andrew is under renewed scrutiny as a group of US lawmakers has formally called for his testimony concerning the late Jeffrey Epstein's criminal activities. This request comes shortly after King Charles III announced the removal of Andrew's royal titles, marking a significant shift in his status within the monarchy.

The letter from sixteen Democratic representatives, addressed to “Andrew Mountbatten Windsor,” expresses the committee's desire for Andrew to engage in a “transcribed interview” with the House Oversight Committee. The committee aims to investigate Epstein’s extensive criminal network and identify potential co-conspirators linked to his sex trafficking operations.

“Our aim is to uncover the identities of Mr. Epstein’s co-conspirators and understand the depth of his criminal activities,” the lawmakers noted. They suggested that Andrew’s long-standing connections with Epstein could provide significant insights into the case.

The lawmakers requested that Andrew respond by November 20. However, it remains unclear if he will comply, given that the US Congress cannot compel foreign nationals to testify.

Fresh scrutiny of Andrew follows new evidence released by the committee and a posthumous memoir from Virginia Giuffre, who has accused him of sexual assault. This resurgence of interest has triggered public outrage in the UK, leading King Charles to take decisive action.

On Wednesday, The Gazette, the UK’s official publication, announced that King Charles III had officially stripped Andrew of all his royal titles and honors. He is also expected to vacate his 30-room residence on the Windsor estate.

Andrew has consistently denied allegations made by Giuffre, claiming he did not engage in any wrongdoing despite reaching a financial settlement with her in 2022 without admitting guilt.

Tragically, Giuffre, who held US and Australian citizenship, died by suicide earlier this year in Australia. This recent wave of revelations has increased public and political scrutiny on Prince Andrew, reinforcing that the ramifications of his ties with Jeffrey Epstein are far from resolved.
