Prince Harry’s Dodgers Cap Draws Canadian Criticism

Prince Harry’s Dodgers Cap Draws Canadian Criticism

Post by : Meena Hassan

The Duke of Sussex has formally apologized to Canada for his choice of wearing a Los Angeles Dodgers cap during Game 4 of the World Series against the Toronto Blue Jays. Prince Harry humorously stated he was "under duress" regarding his choice of headwear, claiming he believed it was "the polite course of action" after receiving an invitation from the Dodgers' owner.

Canadian Fans Express Displeasure

His choice of baseball cap sparked frustration among Canadian fans, many of whom felt he should have shown loyalty to the sole Canadian team in Major League Baseball. Given that his father, King Charles, serves as the head of state for Canada and other Commonwealth nations, scrutiny intensified.

A Humorous Apology

“First and foremost, I apologize to Canada for the hat,” Prince Harry remarked. “Secondly, it wasn’t my choice. I had limited options.” In a lighter moment during the discussion, he donned a Toronto Blue Jays cap, joking, “When you’re losing hair and sitting under bright lights, you take what you can get.”

Pledge to Support the Blue Jays

Moving forward, the prince has vowed to wear a Blue Jays cap and will back Toronto in future games. The Duchess of Sussex, who hails from Los Angeles, shared footage on social media showcasing Prince Harry cheering for the Dodgers’ victory in Game 7.

Engaging with Canadian Veterans

During his visit to Canada, Prince Harry received a Blue Jays hat at a Remembrance occasion while interacting with the country's oldest veterans. He humorously acknowledged that supporting Toronto may complicate his reception back in California.

Royal Life Post-Megxit

Since stepping back from full-time royal duties in 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have made California their home. Their attendance at the Dodgers' stadium elicited mixed feelings among U.S. fans, with some voicing discontent about their front-row seats during the lengthy 18-inning game.

In a related publication released this week, Prince Harry penned an essay discussing “What it means to be British,” lauding pub culture, sports enthusiasm, and a healthy dose of self-irony as essential features of British life, just ahead of his engagements with veterans in Canada.
