On International Museum Day, the spotlight shines on private museums in Saudi Arabia's Northern Borders Region, celebrated for their vital role in safeguarding cultural and historical heritage. These museums invite curiosity from visitors, historians, and culture enthusiasts eager to discover unique artifacts, vintage documents, historical photographs, and traditional tools that encapsulate the area's vibrant history.
Zahiah Al-Anazi stands out among the region's prominent heritage curators, having dedicated a portion of her home to a private museum that features an impressive array of traditional items. Visitors can explore a classic bride's room, regional costumes, copper household utensils, and examples of Sadu weaving, one of the oldest handicrafts in the area.
Additionally, the Northern Borders Region commemorates the Tapline project's historical significance. This vital pipeline, operational from 1950 to 1990, linked oil fields in eastern Saudi Arabia to the Lebanese port city of Sidon. It greatly influenced the social and economic landscape of the region, leaving a profound legacy within local communities.
Across the region, private museums continue to be essential stewards of Saudi heritage, ensuring that traditional culture and historical narratives are preserved for future generations to appreciate.
