Punjab Murder: Canadian Deportee Allegedly Kills Husband with Lover

Post by : Raina Al-Fahim

In a startling development from Faridkot, Punjab, Rupinder Kaur, a woman recently deported from Canada, has been taken into custody for the alleged murder of her husband, Gurvinder Singh, in collusion with her lover. Initially, Rupinder misled authorities by claiming her husband was killed during a home invasion.

On the night of November 28-29, a call was made to Faridkot police by Rupinder, asserting that attackers had intruded into her residence and murdered her husband. However, inconsistencies in her narrative prompted further investigation. It was revealed that Rupinder and her lover, Harkanwalpreet Singh, orchestrated the murder after Gurvinder caught wind of their illicit relationship. The couple allegedly strangled him and concocted the robbery story to divert suspicion.

Sources indicate that both Rupinder and Harkanwalpreet were previously deported from Canada, with Harkanwalpreet returning to India back in 2018. Rupinder's arrival in Punjab this year rekindled their hidden romance, which began while they were overseas, reportedly via an online connection. This affair served as the motive for the tragic crime, as noted by investigators.

A formal case has been registered at Sadar Police Station, subsequent to a statement given by Manveer Kaur, the victim's sister. Superintendent of Police (Investigation), Jogeshwar Singh Goraya, announced in a press briefing that preliminary findings confirmed the crime was motivated by romantic entanglements. Both Rupinder and Harkanwalpreet are under interrogation, with ongoing investigations aimed at uncovering more facets of the case.

This unsettling incident illustrates the potential for personal disputes to erupt into violence and emphasizes the necessity of comprehensive police investigations into domestic offenses. Authorities in Faridkot are diligently pursuing the case, ensuring that both accused individuals are subjected to the full extent of the law.

The incident has garnered significant media attention due to its shocking nature and the backgrounds of the individuals involved, prompting discussions regarding criminal oversight and safety within domestic spaces in the region.
