Reliance Industries is making significant strides in India's AI sector, unveiling plans for a 1 gigawatt artificial intelligence data centre in Andhra Pradesh, as confirmed by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. This facility aims to incorporate advanced GPUs, TPUs, and other specialized AI processors, establishing a “fully modular, future-ready” environment.
Interestingly, this new centre will not exist in isolation. Naidu highlighted that it will serve as a twin to the existing gigawatt-scale AI centre in Jamnagar, Gujarat, forming a united front in one of Asia's leading AI compute networks.
For sustainable operations, Reliance is concurrently planning a 6 GWp solar power initiative in the region. This project intends to double the current level of solar capacity in Andhra Pradesh, harness its solar potential, and provide clean energy for the data centre.
Reliance views this undertaking as more than just infrastructure; it is an effort to democratise AI. Through its MyJio platform, the company aims to provide “pro-level AI tools” to various segments including students, farmers, entrepreneurs, and families nationwide.
This investment further enhances Reliance's presence in Andhra Pradesh, where it has already invested over $25 billion across its telecommunications (Jio), retail, and oil-and-gas sectors.
Though Reliance has not made the exact financial details of the AI centre public, the announcement took place during the prestigious CII Partnership Summit 2025 in Visakhapatnam, attended by CM Naidu and state minister Nara Lokesh.
This development closely follows Google’s substantial investment, with the tech giant committing $15 billion over five years to establish a 1 GW AI data centre campus in Visakhapatnam.
