Rohit Sharma to Play First Two Vijay Hazare Trophy Matches for Mumbai

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

Rohit Sharma has been included in Mumbai’s squad for the first two matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, giving a boost to the team for the opening phase of the tournament. The Mumbai side will be led by all-rounder Shardul Thakur and features a balanced mix of experienced players and young talent.

The squad includes well-known names such as Sarfaraz Khan, Musheer Khan, and Angkrish Raghuvanshi, along with senior campaigner Siddhesh Lad. Wicketkeeping duties will be handled by Hardik Tamore and Akash Anand, while the spin department includes the reliable duo of Shams Mulani and Tanush Kotian.

Some notable players are missing from the squad, including Ajinkya Rahane, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Ayush Mhatre. However, selectors have added several fresh faces to provide new opportunities. Chinmay Sutar, who previously played List A matches for India Emerging, has been recalled. Young batter Ishan Mulchandani has also been named, along with fast bowler Onkar Tarmale, who recently caught attention after being picked by Sunrisers Hyderabad at the IPL auction.

Mumbai have been placed in Group C for the tournament. They will begin their campaign against Sikkim on December 24 in Jaipur. Their second match will be against Uttarakhand, scheduled two days later. The team will be looking to start strongly as they aim for a deep run in the competition.

With Rohit Sharma available for the opening games and Shardul Thakur leading the side, Mumbai will hope their mix of experience and youth delivers strong performances in the early stages of the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
