Rowan Atkinson's Unveiling of Mr. Bean's True Nature

Rowan Atkinson's Unveiling of Mr. Bean's True Nature

Post by : Raina Al-Fahim

In a surprising revelation, British comedian Rowan Atkinson has shared his thoughts on his iconic character, Mr. Bean, during a recent screening in London for the upcoming Netflix miniseries, Man vs. Baby, set to premiere on December 11. Atkinson's comments spotlight a starkly critical view of the character, indicating that he finds a lot about Mr. Bean displeasing.

Atkinson characterized Mr. Bean as selfish and chaotic, likening him to an unruly child, and candidly expressed that he would never want to have him over for dinner. Despite the character's immense global appeal, Atkinson's personal feelings towards Mr. Bean are anything but warm. The comedian elaborated that the character reflects aspects of his own youthful indiscretions, blending a sense of childish self-interest with quirky problem-solving.

“I dislike Mr. Bean as a person. He reminds me a bit of my ten-year-old self—selfish and eccentric in handling situations. However, I wouldn’t want him in my house,” Atkinson disclosed, offering audiences a glimpse into the perspective of the creator behind this globally recognized comic persona.

Even with Atkinson's criticisms, Mr. Bean continues to be a major comedic figure in the UK. Since launching in 1990, the franchise has expanded to over 190 nations, acquiring more than 35 million YouTube subscribers and amassing a staggering 12 billion views globally. The Netflix series Man vs. Baby aims to highlight Atkinson's unique humor while providing insight into the mind of the creator of one of history's most iconic comedic characters.
