Saanand Verma, recognized for his role as Saxena Ji in Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hain, recently shared an astonishing incident on set where he received a real slap from the well-known Bollywood actor Gulshan Grover during the filming of the web series First Copy. In an engaging discussion with Siddharth Kannan, Saanand described the moment as surprising and intentional.
He recounted, “In First Copy, Gulshan Grover actually slapped me hard — it was real. I felt an overwhelming urge to retaliate, yet I maintained my composure. This is the first time I'm talking about it publicly. It was clearly intentional — not part of the act at all.”
He elaborated, “It wasn’t a staged slap at all. If I had been told that he would hit me for real, I could have mentally prepared myself for that. Surprisingly, I didn’t react; I stayed in character, completed the scene, and walked away without uttering a word to anyone.”
When pressed on the importance of communication before such actions, Saanand remarked, “It’s critical to inform fellow actors beforehand. But he slapped me assertively without a word. It felt wrong. Anger bubbled inside me, but I chose to suppress it to avoid negativity. I even thought about throwing a chair at him, but managed to keep a smile on my face.”
Reflecting on how other actors handle similar situations, he said, “I’ve heard Anil Kapoor, for instance, sometimes slaps during shoots but always apologizes afterward. Gulshan, however, didn’t show any remorse. He seems focused on upholding his bad-guy persona, engaging in such antics to maintain that image.”
Saanand Verma has distinguished himself in both television and films. Having gained fame as Saxena Ji in Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hain, his filmography also includes noteworthy projects like Mardaani, Raid, Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan, and Mission Raniganj. Widely respected for his comedic talent and versatility, Saanand has solidified his place in Indian entertainment.
