Salah's Liverpool Controversy Deepens as Rooney Warns of Legacy Risks

Salah's Liverpool Controversy Deepens as Rooney Warns of Legacy Risks

Post by : Raina Al-Fahim

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah is under fire following his outburst about being benched, as former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney cautions that the Egyptian forward could be jeopardizing his legacy at the club. Having spent eight fruitful years at Anfield, where he has clinched two Premier League titles and netted over 250 goals, Salah is experiencing a dip in form this season, scoring just five goals across 19 appearances.

After Liverpool's 3-3 result against Leeds United, Salah aired his grievances, asserting he felt “thrown under the bus” as the team struggles early in the season. His frustrations come just months after signing a two-year extension in April, underscoring his significance to the squad.

Rooney, on his podcast, lambasted Salah’s comments, stating, “He is absolutely destroying his legacy at Liverpool. It would be tragic for him to squander it all. He’s handling it poorly.” He also emphasized that manager Arne Slot must establish control, suggesting, “Arne Slot needs to assert his authority and say, ‘you will not travel with the team; your comments are unacceptable. Go to Afcon and let things settle.’ If I were him, he wouldn’t play again until he calmed down.”

Salah's remarks have stirred controversy as Liverpool currently sits ninth in the Premier League, lagging ten points behind Arsenal after 15 matches. Rooney added, “In many ways, he has thrown Liverpool under the bus with his remarks. I believe he will come to regret his words in the coming years.”

This situation has cast a shadow over Salah’s otherwise stellar tenure at Liverpool, with the future of his relationship with the club hinging on how both parties navigate this challenging chapter.
