SalamAir Signs 10-Year Deal to Boost Aviation Maintenance

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

SalamAir, Oman’s leading value-based airline, has signed a long-term memorandum of understanding with Mach Aerospace International to strengthen its aviation maintenance infrastructure. The 10-year agreement focuses on creating advanced aircraft wheel and brake maintenance facilities in the Sultanate of Oman. This move represents an important step in developing the nation’s aviation capabilities and promoting technical self-reliance within the country.

Under this strategic partnership, SalamAir will provide specialized tools and equipment needed for wheel and brake maintenance operations. Mach Aerospace International will be responsible for setting up and operating a modern maintenance center at Muscat International Airport. The facility will feature cutting-edge technology to perform complete maintenance and repair work for aircraft wheels and braking systems. It will not only support SalamAir’s growing fleet but also serve other airlines in the region, making Muscat an important aviation maintenance hub.

Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Khonji, Chairman of SalamAir’s Board of Directors, highlighted that this agreement supports Oman’s national economic goals. He said the partnership represents a “pivotal advancement in Oman's journey toward a diversified and knowledge-based economy.” He explained that by localizing advanced maintenance services within Oman, the country will retain both technical expertise and economic value internally. This move supports Oman Vision 2040, which aims to strengthen key industrial and service sectors.

Al Khonji added that the new maintenance facilities would enhance Muscat International Airport’s position as a regional center for aviation services. The project will attract more investment and create new opportunities in technical partnerships and operations. He noted that the initiative goes beyond technical improvements, as it will generate specialized employment for Omanis, promote advanced technology transfer, and strengthen national industries linked to aviation.

Al Khonji expressed pride in SalamAir’s role in developing Oman's aviation infrastructure. He emphasized that the airline’s leadership in localizing maintenance operations helps strengthen the country’s industrial resilience. Establishing Oman as a regional hub for modern and sustainable aviation services is part of SalamAir’s larger strategy to ensure long-term self-reliance and economic diversification.

Dr. Abdullah bin Masoud Al Harthy, Chairman of Mach Aerospace International, said that this partnership marks “a transformative advancement” in developing Oman’s maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) capabilities. He explained that the collaboration will bring advanced wheel and brake maintenance technologies in line with global aviation standards. These new methods will reduce turnaround times, extend component life, and improve operational safety and efficiency.

Dr. Al Harthy also stressed that Mach Aerospace is committed to creating sustainable technical infrastructure in Oman. The company aims to support both national and regional aviation operators with reliable and efficient maintenance solutions. This effort aligns with Oman’s broader goal of developing industries that balance innovation with environmental sustainability.

Adrian Hamilton-Manns, CEO of SalamAir, said the partnership represents a major improvement in the airline’s operational and technical performance. He explained that developing in-country wheel and brake maintenance services will boost fleet efficiency and build technical skills among Omani professionals. This aligns with SalamAir’s vision to expand its fleet and network while achieving greater operational independence.

The new agreement also helps SalamAir move beyond being just a transport service provider. By investing in advanced maintenance and technology, the airline is building a complete aviation ecosystem within Oman. Localizing maintenance and repair operations ensures that the country benefits directly from aviation sector growth, keeping skills, jobs, and revenue within the national economy.

Through this partnership, SalamAir continues to strengthen Oman’s position as a regional leader in aviation services. By focusing on knowledge transfer, workforce training, and technical excellence, the airline supports the long-term sustainability and competitiveness of Oman’s aviation industry. The project not only enhances SalamAir’s operational capacity but also contributes to the national vision of making Oman a center for innovation, safety, and excellence in aviation maintenance.
