Saudi Arabia Braces for Record Heat and Rainfall This Summer

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

Saudi Arabia's National Centre for Meteorology (NCM) has warned that the summer of 2025 will bring higher-than-usual temperatures, especially in the central, northern, and eastern regions of the Kingdom. This rise in temperature is expected to occur in July and August.

The NCM's seasonal forecast predicts a temperature increase of about 1 degree Celsius in areas like Riyadh, Qassim, Hail, and the Eastern Province. The temperature in the Eastern Province, Jouf, Tabuk, Qassim, and Hail could rise by up to 1.2 degrees Celsius in August.

In addition to the heat, the NCM has also forecast more rainfall than usual in some regions, including Najran, Jazan, Al-Baha, Asir, southern Riyadh, and parts of Makkah and Madinah. These areas may see extra rain in July and August. The rest of the country is expected to receive normal rainfall.

The forecast is based on weather patterns from 1991 to 2020. According to the NCM, the highest temperature ever recorded in Saudi Arabia was 52°C in Jeddah in June 2010. Al-Ahsa reached 51.3°C in July 2024. In August, Dammam and Al-Qaisumah both saw temperatures of 51°C in 1998 and 2021.

For rainfall, Jazan recorded the highest amount in one day during August 2024, with 113 millimetres. In July 1995, Jazan also received 67.6 millimetres of rain. The highest daily rainfall in June was 53.8 millimetres in Sharurah, Najran, back in 1996.
