Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

The Saudi men’s handball team celebrated a crucial victory against Bahrain on Sunday at the Prince Faisal bin Fahd Olympic Complex during the sixth Islamic Solidarity Games, known as “Riyadh 2025.” This match, part of Group B's second round, was eagerly anticipated by fans and marked a significant milestone, being the first senior win over Bahrain since 2015.

From the outset, the Saudi team displayed impressive tactical discipline and performance. They led the first half with a commanding 16-9 score against Bahrain. With their rapid transitions and coordinated offensive plays, they were able to put considerable pressure on the Bahraini defense. The Saudi players exhibited remarkable teamwork, skillful passing, and accurate shooting, all contributing to their strong lead.

Despite Bahrain’s attempts to rebound in the second half, Saudi Arabia maintained domination through strategic counterattacks and solid defense. Gradually, they extended their lead, keeping Bahrain at bay. With robust defensive strategies and effective goalkeeping, Saudi Arabia secured a decisive 27-21 win.

This victory is especially significant as it ends an eight-year drought against Bahrain in men’s handball at the senior level. Previous encounters saw Saudi Arabia falling short, with their last victory dated back to 2015. The players' preparation, tactics, and resolve were clearly evident, drawing admiration from coaches, officials, and enthusiastic fans.

The Islamic Solidarity Games serve as an essential platform for athletes from member nations to exhibit their skills, promote sportsmanship, and enhance regional collaboration. This win for the Saudi handball team not only boosts their morale but also positively impacts their standings in the tournament, fostering confidence for the upcoming matches. Their performance illustrates the growing competitiveness and advancement of handball in Saudi Arabia.

The crowd at the Prince Faisal bin Fahd Olympic Complex reveled in the victory, recognizing the commitment and effort shown by the players. Coaches stressed the critical roles of teamwork, discipline, and tactical execution in achieving success at international competitions. This match also inspires younger Saudi players aspiring to reach high-level handball competitions.

The Saudi team’s journey continues in Group B as they aim for further wins and advancement in the Islamic Solidarity Games. The triumph over Bahrain is anticipated to bolster their confidence, strengthen team cohesion, and signify the rising prowess of Saudi handball in the region.

Saudi Arabia’s victory at Riyadh 2025 embodies determination, skill, and collaboration, setting a precedent for future competitions and underscoring the nation's dedication to excellence in handball. The win against Bahrain will be remembered as a defining moment in the team’s recent history and serves as an inspiration for handball enthusiasts throughout the kingdom.
