Saudi Arabia’s national football team has been placed in a competitive group alongside Spain, Uruguay, and Cape Verde in the 2026 FIFA World Cup after the official draw ceremony held yesterday evening at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington. The event was attended by Saudi Ambassador to the United States, Princess Reema bint Bandar bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz, who was accompanied by a delegation from the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) led by Yasser Al-Misehal.
The ceremony saw the presence of key international leaders including U.S. President Donald Trump, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, and FIFA President Gianni Infantino, as well as officials and heads of national football federations from all participating countries. The draw event was part of the extensive preparations for the upcoming World Cup finals, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. This edition of the tournament is set to be the largest in history in terms of the number of participating teams and host cities, bringing unprecedented excitement to global football fans.
For Saudi Arabia, being grouped with world-class teams like Spain and Uruguay presents both a challenge and an opportunity to showcase their progress on the international football stage.
