Sean “Diddy” Combs will remain in federal custody longer than previously expected, with updated records now indicating a new release date. The 56-year-old music star, who is serving a 50-month sentence linked to prostitution-related charges, will now be released on June 4, 2028, updated from the earlier May 8, 2028. Federal authorities have yet to provide a specific reason for this nearly four-week delay.
Convictions and Sentencing Overview
Combs was convicted on two federal charges relating to transportation for prostitution, with the verdict delivered in July 2024. Following this, in October 2024, he was sentenced to 50 months behind bars. He has been held in federal custody since September 2024, initially at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn before moving to FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey.
Reported Incidents During Incarceration
Shortly after arriving at Fort Dix, Combs was allegedly discovered with homemade alcohol made from a blend of Fanta soda, sugar, and apples. While prison staff considered transferring him to another unit due to this incident, no further actions were taken.
Combs’ representative has strongly denied any infractions, asserting that he “has not breached any prison regulations” and is focusing on maintaining sobriety and discipline during his imprisonment.
Another incident involved Combs in a three-way phone call, which is against Bureau of Prisons regulations if a third participant joins. His team clarified that this call was with his attorneys and was protected by client-attorney privilege.
Programs and Ongoing Legal Appeals
While at FCI Fort Dix, Combs is taking part in a drug treatment program and is actively working in the chapel library, as reported by his representatives. His legal team plans to appeal the sentence, contesting that Judge Arun Subramanian overstepped his authority during the sentencing process.
Even though prosecutors sought an 11-year prison term, Combs was acquitted of sex trafficking and racketeering charges. His legal counsel had argued for a much shorter sentence, approximating 14 months.
As it stands, the official release date is now June 4, 2028, with any updates regarding this timeline to be provided by the Federal Bureau of Prisons on a case-by-case basis. The ongoing legal disputes and appeals may continue to influence the duration of his sentence, but for now, he will remain incarcerated into the foreseeable future.
