The North Carolina basketball squad faces a major hurdle as their captain, Seth Trimble, suffered a fractured bone in his left forearm during a practice on Sunday. The 6-foot-3 guard, who had just led the team to triumph over Kansas, will now be on the sidelines as he recuperates. The university has confirmed that Trimble is scheduled for surgery later this week.
As per the team's medical team, the surgical procedure will take place in the coming days. Post-operation, doctors will assess his recovery timeline. While North Carolina officials have not disclosed a return date, they remain optimistic that Trimble will be back on the court in time for the later part of the season.
Head coach Hubert Davis expressed his disappointment about the situation. “It’s heartbreaking for Seth,” he stated. “He’s an incredible teammate and has dedicated so much to his senior year. He cherishes being part of the Tar Heels family, and we genuinely care for him. The silver lining is that he’ll return at some point this season, and I am certain he will continue to lead us throughout this period until he reenters the lineup.”
Prior to the injury, Trimble had begun the 2025 season impressively. He proved to be one of the standout players during North Carolina’s comeback against No. 19 Kansas, contributing 17 points and grabbing eight rebounds in their 87–74 win. His performance was pivotal in preserving the Tar Heels' early momentum this season.
Trimble's journey with UNC has been characterized by perseverance and commitment. During his initial two seasons, he participated in 68 games but only started in three. Rather than transferring or quitting, he continually honed his skills and earned a starting position last year. In the 2024–25 season, he averaged 11.6 points and 5.0 rebounds per game, aiding the Tar Heels in advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
This season, Trimble has demonstrated noteworthy performance, averaging 14.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 3.5 assists over two games, also logging 30 minutes of playtime per match, which highlights his emerging role as a leader for the Tar Heels. In their prior encounter against top-ranked Kansas on November 8, 2024, he scored 19 points, showcasing his consistent talent and resilience.
With Trimble out of action, North Carolina will need to modify its lineup and depend on other guards to rise to the occasion. His absence on the court will be significant, given his energy and leadership qualities. The Tar Heels will continue their five-game homestand by facing Radford (2–0) on November 11.
While this injury comes as a disappointment, Trimble’s recovery outlook remains positive. His coaches, teammates, and fans hold confidence in his return to the game, utilizing this time to heal while cheering on his team from the sidelines. As Coach Davis pointed out, Trimble’s positive demeanor will continue to motivate the Tar Heels through the season.
