Alberta is bracing for a significant winter weather event set to occur on Monday, impacting both the northern and southern regions. Authorities are issuing warnings about snow, fierce winds, and hazardous travel conditions.
Northern Alberta
The Peace Region, north of Edmonton, including Grande Prairie to the west and Athabasca to the east, is forecasted to receive between 15 and 30 centimetres of snow. The snowfall will persist throughout the day, with only brief lulls in between. Residents should prepare for slippery roads and limited visibility.
Southern Alberta
Cities such as Red Deer and Medicine Hat are under winter storm watches. The area can expect heavy rain, flurries, and strong gale-force winds before Tuesday, making travel extremely perilous. Forecasters strongly recommend delaying non-essential travel until the situation improves.
Rocky Mountains
In the Rockies, wind gusts could reach up to 100 km/h, impacting regions from Banff to the Montana border. Outdoor activities may pose significant risks, and drivers are advised to remain vigilant for sudden changes in weather.
As winter conditions escalate, Alberta residents are encouraged to stay updated, take precautions, and limit travel until the storm subsides.
