The Shah Alam Light Rail Transit Line 3 (LRT3) has commenced operations with impressive enthusiasm, surpassing 60,000 passenger trips on its first day. Rapid KL noted that this number includes operations from trains, feeder buses, and the Rapid KL On-Demand (ROD) service, demonstrating noteworthy public interest in the service.
Passenger Counts Driven by Train Services
According to Rapid KL, a total of 58,865 journeys were made via LRT3 trains, while first-and-last-mile services contributed 3,319 trips. Specifically, 1,883 passengers utilized feeder buses and 1,436 opted for the Rapid KL On-Demand service, collectively providing a cohesive public transport experience.
What Fuels High Ridership for LRT3?
The LRT3 connects key residential areas to business hubs, educational institutions, and commercial spots in Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam, and Klang. Enhanced connectivity, efficient transfers, and integrated transport options have led many commuters to favor the new rail line from day one.
Positive Feedback from Rapid KL
Amir Hamdan, President and Group CEO of Prasarana Malaysia, remarked on the opening day’s results as a positive indication of the rising need for dependable public transport options. He mentioned ongoing efforts to analyze passenger data, operational workflows, and customer impressions for enhancing the commuting experience.
Complimentary Travel Until July's End
To facilitate a smooth transit during the launch, Rapid KL has stationed personnel and Rapid Troopers at each location to assist commuters with connections and access to station amenities. The operator has also announced that complimentary travel on the Shah Alam LRT3 and its feeder bus services will remain available until July 31, encouraging more riders to experience the new route.
Significance for Malaysia's Transport Landscape
The robust ridership on the opening day symbolizes a growing demand for efficient public transit solutions in the Klang Valley. The successful introduction of LRT3 is anticipated to alleviate traffic congestion, enhance urban mobility, and bolster Malaysia's commitment to advancing its sustainable public transport infrastructure.
