The announcement took place during a press conference at the International Cultural Heritage Organisations Centre Theatre, attended by researchers, heritage experts, media, and SIACH Board members.
At the event, Dr. Abdulaziz Al Musallam, Chairman of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage and the prize's Board of Trustees, emphasized the award's role in establishing a communications bridge through heritage among diverse cultures. He revealed that it aims to protect human memory by preserving both tangible and intangible cultural elements for future generations.
Dr. Al Musallam noted SIACH's evolution into a reputed international award, honouring narrators and initiatives vital to heritage conservation. He articulated that this award fosters cultural identity while helping younger generations delve deeper into their historical roots.
Additionally, he highlighted that SIACH transcends mere celebrations, serving instead as a platform to showcase remarkable heritage experiences and garner international recognition. Dr. Al Musallam also stressed the importance of collaboration with global entities to safeguard cultural heritage amid rapid changes worldwide, essential for preserving collective memory.
Aisha Al Hossan Al Shamsi, SIACH Secretary-General, addressed attendees, describing the award as a crucial global platform for promoting cultural heritage awareness. She pointed out that it attracts a myriad of participants from various backgrounds, showcasing the diversity of heritage traditions through innovative expressions. Al Shamsi added that the increase in submissions reflects the award's growing significance in heritage protection.
During the conference, the submission phase for the sixth cycle was officially opened by Dr. Al Musallam, who invited educational institutions, cultural organizations, artisans, researchers, and community groups to submit their work via the award's official channels. He mentioned that this year's criteria will emphasize quality, authenticity, originality, and contemporary relevance to uphold the award’s esteemed global stature.
Updates were shared from the Board of Trustees' recent meeting, which included decisions essential for the sixth cycle, covering timelines for submissions, judging, and final winner announcements. They reiterated the need to adhere to the established schedule for fair and transparent evaluations, thereby enhancing the award’s credibility as a global cultural heritage leader.
As participation from around the world is anticipated to rise this year, SIACH continues to underscore the UAE's commitment to celebrating and preserving cultural heritage. It also champions academic and community initiatives aimed at keeping heritage relevant and vibrant for future generations.
