Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Is One of Top 10 World Landmarks

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque (SZGM) in Abu Dhabi has reached a new global milestone. According to TripAdvisor’s 2025 global report, it moved up two places to become the 8th most popular landmark in the world. This report ranks 25 of the most famous landmarks worldwide. The mosque also kept its top spot as the number one attraction in the Middle East in this category. It leads a list of the region’s ten most famous sites.

SZGM’s Global Ranking Shows Its Importance

This ranking comes from a study of more than eight million landmarks worldwide. Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque ranks within the top 1% of all these sites. This proves how important it is both in the Middle East and around the world. It also shows how much it helps promote cultural tourism in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Fujairah Mosque Also Gains Global Recognition

Another important achievement comes from the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Fujairah. This mosque was ranked among the top 10% of landmarks worldwide. This is very impressive because visitor services at this mosque were recently started. Both mosques show strong leadership as cultural destinations. They attract visitors from many different cultures across the globe.

Leadership Statement on SZGM’s Success

Dr. Yousif Al Obaidli, Director-General of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre (SZGMC), said the mosque’s global success reflects the UAE’s smart leadership. The Centre has a clear plan focused on improving services and giving visitors great experiences. This success is the result of many projects, including better facilities, cultural programs, skilled staff, and training young Emiratis to guide tours and welcome visitors.

Future Plans to Enrich Visitor Experience

Dr. Al Obaidli added that these achievements open new opportunities for the mosque. The Centre plans to continue its mission by creating better programs and exhibitions. These will share the mosque’s message in new and creative ways that meet visitor needs and support the UAE’s vision.

SZGM as a Unique Cultural and Religious Site

The high ranking of SZGM in Abu Dhabi shows it is a special place in the world. It is not just a religious site for prayer but also a cultural landmark. It represents Islamic art and heritage beautifully and has become a unique tourist spot. More than seven million people visit the mosque every year from all over the world.

A Place of Peace and Cultural Unity

Wide Range of Services and Visitor Facilities

The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre works hard to provide many services to visitors. At the Abu Dhabi mosque, guests can spend a full day enjoying many facilities. There is a visitor center with exhibition halls, a library, and an auditorium. There is also Souq Al Jami’, a market with shops, cafes, and play areas for families.

Recreation and Wellness at the Mosque

Visitors and the local community can enjoy a jogging track around the mosque. This offers a chance to exercise while seeing the mosque’s beautiful architecture. These facilities create a friendly and welcoming environment for all.

Skilled Professionals Deliver Cultural Tours

The SZGMC has a team of skilled Emirati guides. They deliver cultural tours that explain the mosque’s history, art, and message of peace. These guides help visitors from around the world connect with the UAE’s culture.

High Number of International Visitors

About 82% of the mosque’s visitors come from outside the UAE. Many important guests and leaders choose to visit SZGM during their trips. The Centre continues to add new services to attract more people and make their visits better.

Unique Guided Tours and Experiences

One popular offering is the ‘Unseen Glimpses’ tour, where visitors explore special parts of the mosque in electric club cars. This lets guests see areas normally closed to the public. The Centre also offers evening tours called Sura, giving access to the mosque 24 hours a day for people on short visits or transit in Abu Dhabi.

Technology for Inclusive Visitor Experience

SZGMC uses advanced tools like El-Delleel, a multimedia device that gives cultural tours in 14 languages. It even has a special tour for people who are deaf or hard of hearing. There are also special tours designed for children, making sure everyone can enjoy their visit.

The Dome of Peace as a Cultural Attraction

The Dome of Peace at SZGM is a new cultural destination in Abu Dhabi. It offers visitors a unique and immersive experience that mixes tradition with modern technology. This helps people learn about Islamic culture in a memorable way.

Museums and Exhibitions Highlight Islamic Heritage

SZGMC manages many exhibitions and museums. These include the Al Jami Library, a cultural auditorium, and displays about ancient civilizations. Some exhibitions focus on Islamic coins, calligraphy, and the pilgrimage of Hajj. The Light & Peace Museum offers interactive art and knowledge, and the Diya experience takes visitors on a sensory journey through the UAE’s heritage.
