Indian badminton star and two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu has successfully progressed to the semi-finals of the BWF Super 1000 Malaysia Open, currently taking place in Kuala Lumpur.
Her quarter-final match against Japan's third-seeded Akane Yamaguchi was cut short as Sindhu dominated the first game, winning 21-11 in just 11 minutes. Yamaguchi had to withdraw due to a knee injury, allowing Sindhu to advance automatically to the semi-finals.
In the Round of 16, Sindhu performed confidently, defeating Japan's eighth seed Tomoka Miyazaki in straight games with a score of 21-8, 21-13 in only 33 minutes. Her aggressive play, solid defense, and consistency underscored her strong form throughout the tournament.
In men's doubles, the leading Indian duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty successfully reached the quarter-finals by overcoming Malaysia’s Junaidi Arif and Roy King Yap, winning with a score of 21-18, 21-11 in 39 minutes. They maintained pressure throughout the match and will now face Indonesia’s sixth-seeded duo Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto in a much-anticipated quarter-final showdown.
Sadly, India's journey in the men’s singles category concluded in the pre-quarterfinals, where Commonwealth Games champion Lakshya Sen faced a tough defeat against Hong Kong's Lee Cheuk Yiu, losing 20-22, 15-21 in a keenly contested match.
Young shuttler Ayush Shetty also exited the tournament despite a commendable effort against world number one and top seed Shi Yu Qi. Ayush won the second game, leveling the match, but ultimately succumbed with scores of 18-21, 21-18, 12-21, earning commendation for his spirited performance against a tournament favorite.
With PV Sindhu moving into the semi-finals and Satwik-Chirag still competing, hopes remain high for India's success at the Malaysia Open as the tournament approaches its crucial stages.
