Sai Sudharsan Shines With Century in Tamil Nadu’s Big Win

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

Sai Sudharsan put an end to recent criticism by playing a remarkable innings for Tamil Nadu in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Super League match against Saurashtra on Monday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The young batter, who has been under pressure because of his Test cricket form, delivered a powerful performance when his team needed it the most.

He stood out among the Tamil Nadu players, as most of the other batters struggled to stay at the crease. Only three of them reached double-digit scores. Sudharsan, however, remained calm and steady, finishing unbeaten with 101 runs from just 55 balls. His brilliant knock helped Tamil Nadu successfully chase Saurashtra’s target of 184. This innings also highlighted his ability to handle pressure and perform in crucial moments.

The 24-year-old from Chennai has faced a tough phase recently, especially after being promoted to the No. 3 position in the Indian Test team. His performance came under heavy scrutiny, as he scored only two fifties in six matches and was exposed technically in both overseas and home series. His best Test knock during this period was 87 against the West Indies in Delhi. His Test struggles raised questions about his place in the team, but this T20 century provided a strong answer to his critics.

Sudharsan returned to play for Tamil Nadu after India’s disappointing match against South Africa in Guwahati. Though he began the tournament with low scores, he slowly regained confidence. He scored an important 64 in the previous match against Jharkhand before exploding with this century, which included 10 fours and four sixes.

Even with the win, Tamil Nadu could not qualify for the knockout stage. They finished fourth in the Elite Group D standings with three wins and four losses from seven games. However, Sudharsan’s comeback in form is a positive sign for his IPL team, the Gujarat Titans, who will be eager to see one of their key batters regain top shape. His recent performances prove he is finding his rhythm again and could be a major asset in the upcoming season.
