The Thai government announced on Tuesday that Indian citizens can continue to enter the country without a visa. This decision arises from concerns over declining tourist numbers due to uncertainty around proposed policy changes.
Earlier discussions around revoking visa-free entry for Indians raised confusion among potential travellers, leading to a drop in visitors from India.
Although the visa exemption remains intact, Indian visitors will now be limited to a stay of 30 days, a decrease from the previous 60 days.
This adjustment aims to align with the typical travel behavior of Indian tourists while supporting Thailand's thriving tourism industry.
India remains one of the largest sources of tourists to Thailand, following China and Malaysia in visitor numbers.
Tourism Minister Surasak Phancharoenworakul emphasized that the government will keep the policy under review. According to him, "Should issues arise, we can reassess this decision in the future," as per reports from Bloomberg.
In May, a proposal to reduce the list of visa-exempt nations from 93 to 54 was put forth, allowing a 30-day stay.
However, this plan was ultimately never executed.

Under the new measures, Indian tourists can enter Thailand visa-free for 30 days, alongside visitors from Croatia, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Malta, and the Maldives.
These adjustments form part of the Thai government’s approach, led by Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, to prevent misuse of the visa-free entries.
Authorities are addressing cases involving foreigners suspected of unauthorized work or activities that contravene their visa terms, responding to local business concerns, especially in tourist-heavy areas.
Tourism remains crucial to Thailand’s economic health, making travel regulations essential to its economic policy.
The importance of this sector was highlighted following a tragic fire at a Bangkok pub on July 12, resulting in 27 fatalities and numerous injuries.
