Billy Bob Thornton Sets the Record Straight on Blood Locket Myths

Post by : Meena Hassan

Billy Bob Thornton is addressing one of the most talked-about rumors from his past relationship with Angelina Jolie. In a recent chat with Rolling Stone, the actor shed light on the enduring myth that he and Jolie wore vials containing each other's blood, a tale that has often been used as a punchline regarding their romance.

Thornton clarified that the narrative has been greatly exaggerated. “We each had a small locket, with a drop of blood in them,” he remarked, noting that the intention was purely personal and affectionate, contrary to the bizarre interpretation propagated by the media.

“That was meant to be a romantic gesture, and that’s all there is to it. But by the time it’s over, we’re depicted as vampires. We live in a dungeon, we drink each other’s blood, and all that nonsense,” he added with a hint of humor.

He further discussed the depth of their connection, acknowledging the wonderful moments they shared. “Angelina and I had an incredible time together. It was one of the most enjoyable periods of my life,” he expressed, highlighting that public perception distorted the reality of their relationship.

Despite parting ways, Thornton stated that the breakup was amicable. “We’re still very close friends. Our split was quite civilized,” he shared. The differences in their lifestyles, rather than any conflict, were cited as the reasons for the end of their marriage.

Billy Bob Thornton and Angelina Jolie first crossed paths in 1999 during the filming of Pushing Tin. The couple eloped in Las Vegas in 2000, later announcing plans to adopt Maddox in 2002. Their union ended in 2003.

Even years post-divorce, the tale of the blood vials persisted. Thornton previously discussed it in 2014 at Loyola Marymount University, explaining that Jolie had suggested they each put a drop of blood inside a small locket kit. “Nothing more dramatic than that,” he noted then.

In this recent interview, Thornton aims to dispel the rumors once and for all, reiterating that the locket was simply a private and romantic symbol, well apart from the vampire lore spun by the media.
