Post by : Bianca Haleem

Iran observed Ashura on Thursday, June 25, 2026, as thousands of worshippers gathered in cities across the country to commemorate one of the most important days in the Islamic calendar.

Large crowds assembled in Tehran dressed in black, carrying flags, banners, and images of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei during mourning ceremonies held to mark the 10th day of Muharram. The observance comes as the country experiences a period of heightened emotion following the recent US-Iran-Israel conflict.

People gathered in different parts of the capital, including Enghelab Square, where memorial services were held. The ceremonies combined traditional Shia mourning rituals for Imam Hussain with expressions of grief and remembrance linked to recent events that have influenced public sentiment across the country.

In Gulf countries, Ashura is being observed on Thursday, June 25, 2026. In India, the observance is scheduled for Friday, June 26, 2026.
