Tree-Planting Ceremony at Singapore Botanic Gardens by To Lam

Post by : Shakul

As part of his official visit to Singapore, Vietnamese General Secretary and President To Lam took part in an important tree-planting ceremony at the iconic Singapore Botanic Gardens on May 30. Prime Minister Lawrence Wong hosted the event, which served as a powerful symbol of the deepening cooperation between the two Southeast Asian countries.

Dignitaries and officials from both nations witnessed the moment. President To Lam and Prime Minister Wong received insights into the Hopea recopei tree species, alongside details about the historical relevance of the planting location within the revered botanical garden.

This significant initiative emphasized the joint resolve of Vietnam and Singapore in promoting environmental sustainability and preserving ecological balance. It further underscores the robust diplomatic bonds fostered through the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations.

Nestled in the heart of Singapore, the Singapore Botanic Gardens stands as one of the country's landmark treasures. Founded in 1859, the garden has made crucial contributions to botanical research, plant conservation, and agricultural advancements in Southeast Asia for over a century.

Globally recognized for its contribution to science and natural aesthetics, the garden became the first tropical botanical garden inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2015. Today, it is among Singapore's most frequented attractions and a key hub for tropical plant research.

A highlight of the gardens is the National Orchid Garden, which boasts the world's largest collection of tropical orchids. Singapore has been a frontrunner in orchid breeding since the late 1920s, establishing itself as a leader in horticultural innovation.

This ceremony also reaffirmed Singapore's enduring commitment to environmental conservation, dating back to 1963 when founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew initiated a nationwide tree-planting campaign. Despite its high population density, Singapore has successfully woven lush greenery into its urban fabric, garnering international acclaim as a “City in Nature.”
