Phygital Football is coming to Abu Dhabi this summer, and fans around the world are excited. From July 25 to 29, the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) will host the “Phygital Contenders: Abu Dhabi – Football” tournament. This event will bring together 24 of the best clubs from North and Latin America, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.
The tournament is a key step in the journey to the Games of the Future 2025. ASPIRE, the Local Delivery Authority for those Games, is organising the football event with help from Ethara and Phygital International. ASPIRE is in charge of making sure everything runs smoothly in Abu Dhabi, and Ethara will help deliver the matches on the ground. Phygital International holds the global rights and has set the rules and format.
During the five days of competition, each club will play in a series of matches. Teams will earn points for each win or draw. At the end of the group stage, the top teams will move on to the knockout rounds. Those matches will be exciting and close, as every club wants to finish among the best.
Two teams to watch are Team Joga from the United States and LPT Venezuela. Team Joga has grown quickly and plays with great skill and teamwork. LPT Venezuela won the side tournament at the Games of the Future 2024, so they know how to handle the pressure of big events. Both clubs will be hungry for victory and eager to prove themselves again.
This tournament in Abu Dhabi is the conclusion of a long season. Earlier in the year, clubs took part in the Phygital Origins and Phygital Rivals competitions. Those events gave teams from all over the world a chance to qualify and gain experience. Now only the strongest clubs have reached this final stage.
At stake is a spot in the Games of the Future 2025, scheduled for December 18 to 23 in Abu Dhabi. The Games of the Future mix physical sport with digital technology, creating new ways to compete. Winning in July will mean more than a trophy – it will also mean a chance to become world champions in December.
Nis Hatt, CEO of Phygital International, said that this tournament is the last step in a year of global qualification. He believes it will raise the bar for phygital sport and show how far the game has come. He is looking forward to fierce battles and surprising upsets.
Stephane Timpano, CEO of ASPIRE, added that hosting Phygital Contenders in Abu Dhabi is a great honour. He said Abu Dhabi always welcomes bold, forward-looking ideas. He praised the city’s support for innovation and said everyone involved is ready for five days of thrilling football.
Fans can follow the action live at the venue or online through official broadcasts. The event promises high-energy matches, dramatic moments, and the chance to see the future of sport in action. Whether you love football, technology, or both, this tournament will have something for you.
Mark your calendars for July 25 to 29, and get ready to cheer on your favorite club. Phygital Contenders: Abu Dhabi – Football will deliver top-level play and unforgettable excitement. The road to the Games of the Future 2025 ends here, and only the best clubs will move on to December’s grand stage. Don’t miss it!
