Trial Set for Man Accused in Fatal Ontario Collision

Trial Set for Man Accused in Fatal Ontario Collision

Post by : Shweta

The family of Andrew Cristillo is gearing up for a significant court trial in pursuit of justice following the heartbreaking crash that took his life last August. Jaiwin Kirubananthan, the accused, is scheduled to appear in Newmarket, where he faces charges of dangerous driving causing death and failing to remain at the scene.

Cristillo, aged 35 and a devoted father of three, tragically lost his life when his vehicle was struck head-on on Highway 48, leaving behind a grieving wife and three young daughters. The family is committed to attending the trial to honor his memory and advocate for justice.

This case has attracted significant public interest due to its ties to an earlier incident involving Premier Doug Ford. Prior to the tragic collision, Kirubananthan faced charges related to a separate accident that involved a vehicle transporting Ford on Highway 401. Despite these charges, he was permitted to continue driving before the fatal incident.

Members of Cristillo's family, particularly his brother, have been vocal about their sorrow and the necessity for enhanced road safety regulations. They are rallying for a piece of proposed legislation, known as “Andrew’s Law,” calling for immediate license suspensions for those charged with dangerous driving, akin to existing rules for stunt driving.

Supporters are anticipated to gather outside the courthouse with images and messages expressing the profound impact of Cristillo’s death on their lives. The family aims not only for justice but also to elevate awareness around road safety and legal responsibilities.

This trial represents a crucial chapter for the family as they navigate the emotional turmoil from the incident while advocating for changes that could avert similar tragedies in the future.
