Trump Reaches G7 Summit After Announcing Iran Deal

Post by : Shakul

US President Donald Trump arrived in France for the Group of Seven summit after announcing an agreement that could bring an end to the conflict between the United States and Iran. The development comes after weeks of negotiations and is being viewed as a major diplomatic breakthrough ahead of meetings with world leaders.

Trump said the agreement would pave the way for reopening the Strait of Hormuz and ending the US naval blockade in the region. The waterway is one of the world's most important energy routes and has remained a key focus during the conflict due to its impact on global oil supplies.

Iran Signals Caution Before Final Signing

While Washington welcomed the agreement, Iranian officials indicated that some restrictions would remain in place until the deal is officially signed. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said the closure of the Strait of Hormuz would continue until the final agreement receives formal approval.

Neither side has released the full details of the accord. Pakistan, which helped mediate negotiations, confirmed that preliminary implementation discussions will take place before a 60-day period of technical talks on Iran's nuclear programme begins.

New Dynamics Expected At G7 Summit

The agreement is expected to influence discussions at the summit, where several European leaders had previously criticised Trump's handling of the conflict. Relations between Washington and key allies became strained after concerns that major partners were not adequately consulted before military operations began.

French President Emmanuel Macron, the summit host, has invited leaders from Egypt, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates to participate in special discussions focused on the Middle East and regional security challenges.

Focus Turns To Hormuz And Energy Security

One of the major issues on the summit agenda is the future of the Strait of Hormuz. According to the White House, leaders are expected to discuss efforts to remove potential naval mines and restore safe commercial shipping through the strategic passage.

The route previously handled nearly 20 percent of global crude oil exports. Any disruption has immediate consequences for fuel prices, inflation and international trade flows.

Questions Remain Over Iran Nuclear Commitments

Despite the announcement, several political leaders and analysts have raised concerns about how the agreement will address Iran's nuclear programme. Questions remain regarding verification mechanisms, sanctions relief and the future of highly enriched uranium stockpiles.

Some US lawmakers have also demanded greater transparency, arguing that Congress should review any long-term agreement involving nuclear commitments and economic incentives for Tehran.

Ukraine Conflict Still On Global Agenda

Alongside discussions on Iran, G7 leaders are expected to address the ongoing war in Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has been invited to participate in summit meetings and discuss future support from Western allies.

Ahead of the summit, Trump held separate phone calls with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Zelenskyy. Both conversations focused on efforts to reduce hostilities and explore possible diplomatic solutions to the conflict.

World Leaders Watch Implementation Phase

Attention is now shifting toward the implementation of the proposed US-Iran agreement and whether both sides will fulfill their commitments. Global leaders view the deal as an opportunity to reduce regional tensions, stabilize energy markets and create momentum for broader diplomatic engagement.

The coming weeks are expected to be crucial as negotiators work through technical details and prepare for the next phase of discussions on security, sanctions and nuclear issues.
