Former U.S. President Donald Trump gave a speech at the “AI Race Summit” held in Washington DC on July 23. The summit was organized to talk about the future of artificial intelligence (AI) and how America can stay ahead in the global AI race.

During his speech, Trump surprised the audience by saying he wants to rename artificial intelligence. He believes the name is not suitable for such a powerful and intelligent technology.

Why Trump Wants to Change the Name of AI

Trump said that he doesn’t like the word “artificial” because it sounds fake or not real. He explained, “I don’t like anything that is artificial.” According to him, artificial intelligence is not something made-up or fake. Instead, he called it “pure genius.”

At first, people in the audience laughed, thinking he was joking. But Trump made it clear that he was serious. He said, “I actually mean that. I don't like the name 'artificial' anything, because it's not artificial. It’s genius.”

He continued by saying that people around the world are talking about AI more than ever before, and it has become one of the most important topics globally. But he repeated that the name doesn’t match the greatness of the technology. That’s why he wants to change it.

Trump Praises AI but Wants a Better Name

In his speech, Trump praised AI for being one of the most important technological developments in history. He said, “These are the earliest days of one of the most important revolutions the world has ever seen.”

He added that AI is changing the world and shaping the future, and the U.S. must take the lead. But for that to happen, the technology needs to be understood and appreciated properly—starting with a name that truly reflects its value.

According to him, the current name “artificial intelligence” gives the wrong impression. It sounds like it’s not real or that it lacks creativity. But Trump believes AI is filled with creativity and brilliance.

America Must Win the AI Race

Trump also made it clear that he sees AI as a global competition. He said, “America is the country that started the AI race, and as president of the United States, I'm here today to declare that America is going to win it.”

He compared the AI competition to the space race of the 1960s, calling it the biggest challenge since that time. Winning the AI race, he said, would prove America’s strength, talent, and innovation.

He stressed that staying ahead in AI is necessary to protect the country’s economic and national security interests. He also said that winning would depend on the combined efforts of the government, private companies, and tech experts.

Trump Signs Executive Order for “America’s AI Action Plan”

During the same event, Trump signed an executive order launching America’s AI Action Plan. The plan includes 25 pages of strategies to help the U.S. become the world leader in AI.

The main goal of the plan is to speed up innovation, create necessary infrastructure, and lead internationally in AI development. It includes more than 90 proposals from different U.S. government agencies and departments.

The plan also promises to reduce government rules and regulations that might slow down AI innovation in the private sector. Trump believes that companies should be free to develop new technologies quickly without unnecessary barriers.

Three Main Goals of the AI Action Plan

The action plan focuses on three major areas:

  1. Accelerating Innovation – Supporting research, startups, and companies to develop better AI tools faster.

  2. Building Infrastructure – Creating systems like data centers, computing power, and connectivity that can support large-scale AI usage.

  3. Leading Internationally – Ensuring that America sets the global standards and leads other nations in AI development.

According to the Trump administration, these goals are necessary to keep the U.S. on top in the technology sector.

Calling for Loyalty from American Tech Companies

Trump also used the event to speak directly to Silicon Valley and other American tech companies. He criticized them for building factories in other countries like China, outsourcing jobs to India, and moving profits to countries like Ireland to avoid U.S. taxes.

He said that these companies enjoy the freedom and opportunities provided by America, so they should also show patriotism and loyalty in return.

He added that the AI revolution should be led by Americans and should benefit American workers and companies first. This, he believes, will help strengthen the U.S. economy and national security.

Concerns About Environmental Impact Overlooked

While the action plan is ambitious and focused on fast progress, some critics say that environmental concerns have been left out. There is no strong plan in the document to deal with the energy usage and potential pollution that can come from running large AI systems and data centers.

Experts say that as AI grows, it can require a lot of electricity, which can hurt the environment if not managed properly. But the plan seems to prioritize speed and global competition over these concerns.

A Bold but Controversial Approach

Donald Trump’s speech at the AI Race Summit has drawn attention not only for the executive actions he took but also for his unusual but firm stance on renaming AI. He believes AI deserves a title that reflects its brilliance rather than calling it “artificial.”

His remarks might sound funny to some, but they highlight how seriously he takes the future of AI and America’s role in it. With his AI Action Plan, he hopes to place the U.S. far ahead of other countries in the coming AI revolution.

While the idea of changing the name of AI may not be adopted anytime soon, Trump’s message was clear: Artificial Intelligence is no longer just a tool—it’s a symbol of national power, pride, and progress.
