Turkey Set to Host COP31 in 2026; Australia Takes the Lead in Climate Negotiations

Turkey has been selected as the host of the COP31 climate summit in 2026, while Australia will spearhead the negotiation process. This announcement was made during the COP30 summit in Brazil, resolving an ongoing debate regarding hosting rights between the two countries. Under a collaborative model, Turkey will handle the venue and logistical support, whereas Australia will manage the negotiations.

The decision emerged from a meeting of the Western European and Others Group, represented by Germany, which oversaw the selection of the host nation.
