The UAE Accountability Authority (UAEAA) has taken a significant step in expanding its international partnerships by signing two major Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the Office of the Auditor General of the Republic of Seychelles and the Office of the Auditor General of the Republic of Uganda. The agreements are aimed at enhancing cooperation in auditing, governance, and oversight practices, promoting the exchange of technical expertise, and supporting national capacity development to strengthen public sector accountability and sustainable economic growth.
The signing ceremony was held at the headquarters of UAEAA in Abu Dhabi during official visits by the delegations from Seychelles and Uganda. The event was attended by Humaid Obaid Abushibs, Chairman of UAEAA; Gamini Herath, Auditor-General of the Republic of Seychelles; and Edward Akol, Auditor General of the Republic of Uganda. The presence of senior officials underscored the importance of these agreements as a milestone in fostering international collaboration in public sector auditing.
Objectives and Significance of the MoUs
The two MoUs are designed to facilitate the exchange of institutional expertise and technical knowledge between the UAE and the partner nations. This includes sharing best practices in auditing standards, internal controls, and risk management to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of governmental oversight. The agreements also aim to build national capacities by training officials, developing specialized skills, and promoting knowledge transfer in line with internationally recognized auditing and governance frameworks.
By establishing these partnerships, UAEAA seeks to strengthen control systems, optimize the management of public resources, and support the development of sustainable economic practices. These initiatives are particularly important for ensuring transparency, accountability, and adherence to global standards in government financial operations.
Expanding UAEAA’s International Presence
The signing of these MoUs reflects UAEAA’s ongoing commitment to expanding its global footprint in auditing and oversight. Through strategic collaborations with international counterparts, the authority aims to stay aligned with global trends and challenges, enhancing its capacity to monitor, evaluate, and improve public sector performance.
The partnership with Seychelles and Uganda provides opportunities for joint research, exchange programmes, workshops, and expert consultations. This cooperation is expected to enable UAEAA and its partner organizations to develop innovative approaches to governance and auditing, addressing emerging challenges in public financial management and strengthening institutional resilience.
Role of UAEAA in Promoting Best Practices
The agreements reinforce UAEAA’s role as a leading institution in ensuring effective public sector management. By working closely with international audit offices, the authority is better equipped to implement advanced methodologies, integrate technological solutions, and benchmark its performance against global standards. These collaborations also serve to enhance the professional development of auditors and oversight professionals, ensuring that the UAE continues to maintain a robust and transparent public financial system.
Strategic Impact on Sustainable Economic Development
The MoUs also emphasize the broader economic significance of robust auditing and oversight. By improving financial governance and institutional efficiency, the UAEAA contributes to sustainable economic development, supports strategic planning, and fosters public confidence in government operations. The enhanced oversight framework ensures that resources are utilized efficiently, risks are mitigated, and long-term economic objectives are achieved.
The UAEAA’s agreements with the Offices of the Auditor General of Seychelles and Uganda mark a crucial step in promoting international cooperation, knowledge sharing, and capacity building in public sector auditing. These MoUs not only enhance technical expertise and institutional capabilities but also reinforce the UAE’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and sustainable economic growth. By fostering global partnerships, UAEAA continues to strengthen its leadership role in shaping effective governance practices and supporting the optimal management of public resources.
