UAE and Japan Hold Third CSPI Subcommittee Meeting in Tokyo

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

The United Arab Emirates and Japan held the third round of the Subcommittee on Political Diplomacy and International Cooperation under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Initiative (CSPI) in Tokyo. The meeting was co-chaired by Reem Ketait, Deputy Assistant Minister for Political Affairs at the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Iwamoto Keiichi, Director-General of the Middle Eastern and African Affairs Bureau at Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the session, both sides highlighted the strength of UAE-Japan relations, built on shared strategic interests, long-standing diplomatic ties, and regular high-level visits and interactions. The delegations emphasized the importance of concluding the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) to enhance economic cooperation and mutual growth.

The discussions covered a wide range of areas for deeper collaboration, including the economy, space exploration, advanced technology, artificial intelligence (AI), and digital transformation. Both countries also agreed to enhance cooperation within international and multilateral forums to support global peace, stability, and sustainable development.

The UAE and Japan exchanged perspectives on current regional and international developments, particularly in the Middle East and Asia. They underlined the importance of dialogue, diplomacy, and peaceful solutions to resolve conflicts and address regional challenges. Protecting civilians in conflict zones and ensuring uninterrupted humanitarian aid were key topics, with specific attention to the situations in Gaza and Sudan.

The two sides agreed to continue regular consultations to strengthen their shared goals and promote the welfare and prosperity of both nations. This cooperation demonstrates the UAE’s commitment to playing an active role in international peace efforts while fostering strong bilateral relations with Japan.

Following the subcommittee session, Reem Ketait met with Onishi Yohei, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, where they reaffirmed plans to deepen collaboration through enhanced parliamentary engagement. Shihab Al Faheem, UAE Ambassador to Japan, along with representatives from relevant UAE organizations, attended the meetings and contributed to the discussions.

The session marked another important step in advancing the UAE-Japan partnership. Both countries confirmed their intent to explore new avenues of cooperation in trade, technology, and political coordination. By focusing on sustainable growth and innovation, the two nations aim to strengthen regional stability and international cooperation.

The discussions also highlighted the role of advanced technologies, including AI and digital transformation, in supporting economic development and strategic growth. Both sides agreed that sharing knowledge, research, and best practices in these areas will benefit citizens and contribute to a more secure and prosperous future.

The UAE-Japan CSPI subcommittee continues to serve as a key platform for dialogue, building mutual understanding, and advancing strategic partnerships. The meeting in Tokyo underscores the commitment of both countries to collaborate closely in areas of political, economic, and technological importance, while also addressing humanitarian and regional security challenges.

Through these efforts, the UAE and Japan strengthen their position as partners committed to peace, stability, and sustainable development, demonstrating the value of diplomatic cooperation and strategic engagement in addressing both regional and global challenges.
