UAE and South Korea Collaborate on Groundbreaking AI Data Campus

Post by : Bianca Haleem

In a significant step towards expanding their technological reach, South Korea has partnered with the United Arab Emirates to establish a vast artificial intelligence data campus in the Gulf. This announcement came during President Lee Jae Myung’s visit for a prominent summit in the UAE.

Dubbed Stargate UAE, the project aims to become one of the largest AI data center complexes globally, situated well outside the United States. This initiative is a notable achievement in international tech collaboration, particularly in light of prior U.S. restrictions on sharing cutting-edge technology with the UAE due to its links with China.

The initial phase will feature a 1-gigawatt facility, crafted by the UAE’s state-backed enterprise G42. This venture will bring together major global tech firms, including OpenAI, Oracle, Nvidia, Cisco Systems, and Japan’s SoftBank Group. Analysts believe that such collaborations may elevate the UAE as a pivotal hub for AI research and data processing, attracting investments and talents on a global scale.

Experts assert that this partnership illustrates a rising trend of countries aiming to enhance their technological independence while promoting international collaboration in the AI field. The Stargate project promises to advance the UAE's digital framework, capable of supporting extensive AI applications, from smart cities to cutting-edge computational studies.

With construction anticipated to start shortly, the Stargate UAE campus has the potential to transform the AI data processing landscape in the Middle East, facilitating a technological bridge between Asia, the Gulf, and the global tech community.
