UAE Urges Peace After Civilian Attacks in Sudan’s El Fasher

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has strongly condemned the recent violent attacks on civilians in El Fasher, Sudan. During a United Nations Security Council session, the UAE described the assaults as a clear and unacceptable violation of international humanitarian law. The statement reflected the country’s concern over the worsening situation and its commitment to supporting peace and civilian protection in Sudan.

Ambassador Mohamed Abushahab, the UAE’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, delivered a powerful message urging both the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to show restraint. He demanded that the RSF stop all attacks on civilians and ensure the safety of humanitarian workers operating in the conflict zones. Abushahab emphasized that targeting innocent people only deepens the suffering and instability in Sudan.

The UAE urged the warring parties to declare an immediate humanitarian truce in El Fasher. According to Ambassador Abushahab, such a truce should be the first step toward a permanent ceasefire and a peaceful political process. He added that this process must lead to the creation of an independent, civilian-led government capable of uniting the country and ending years of conflict.

To support the Sudanese people, the UAE announced an additional $100 million in humanitarian aid. This funding will go toward essential supplies such as food, medicine, clean water, and emergency shelter for those affected by the ongoing violence in El Fasher and surrounding areas. The contribution underlines the UAE’s long-standing humanitarian commitment to Sudan, which has already seen millions displaced and thousands in urgent need of assistance.

The UAE’s representative reminded all parties involved in the conflict of their obligations under international humanitarian law. Ambassador Abushahab stated that respect for these laws is essential to protect civilians and reduce further harm. He urged the global community to hold those responsible for the attacks accountable and to work together to prevent further escalation.

This latest move is part of the UAE’s broader policy of supporting peace and humanitarian efforts in Sudan. The country has repeatedly called for an end to violence and for renewed dialogue among Sudanese stakeholders. The UAE continues to provide both diplomatic and material assistance to help stabilize the situation and ensure that the Sudanese people receive the help they need.

Within the United Nations, the UAE has consistently advocated for humanitarian access and protection of civilians in war-torn regions. Its leadership has been active in encouraging global collaboration to respond to crises in Africa and beyond. The UAE’s efforts in Sudan reflect its vision of a world where diplomacy and compassion take precedence over violence and division.

Ambassador Abushahab called upon the international community to remain united in helping Sudan achieve peace. He stressed that cooperation between regional and international actors is vital to ending the suffering of Sudan’s civilians. The UAE believes that the UN and its member states must continue to support diplomatic initiatives and peacebuilding missions to prevent further instability.

Beyond immediate aid, the UAE’s approach focuses on long-term stability in Sudan. The country supports initiatives that strengthen governance, promote inclusive political dialogue, and encourage sustainable development. UAE officials have highlighted the need to rebuild critical infrastructure and invest in education, health, and livelihoods to create lasting peace.

The UAE’s condemnation of the El Fasher attacks and its $100 million pledge demonstrate its dual role as both a humanitarian leader and a responsible member of the international community. By combining moral advocacy with practical aid, the UAE continues to promote values of peace, protection, and progress. Its actions in Sudan show a strong commitment to upholding global stability and ensuring that no civilian is left without support in times of crisis.
