UAE Denies Visa Restrictions On Bangladeshi Citizens

UAE Denies Visa Restrictions On Bangladeshi Citizens

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has clarified that it has not imposed any visa restrictions on Bangladeshi citizens. Officials dismissed recent social media claims about a visa suspension as false. The UAE government has not issued any directive limiting tourist or work visas for Bangladeshis, ensuring that the visa system remains unchanged.

Ambassador Confirms No Official Notice

Tareq Ahmed, Bangladesh’s Ambassador to the UAE, confirmed that neither the embassy nor the consulate has received any official communication from the UAE government about visa bans. Speaking to Business Standard, he stressed that reports circulating online are not accurate and have no official basis.

Social Media Claims Were Incorrect

Several social media platforms recently claimed that the UAE had suspended visa issuance for residents from certain countries, including Bangladesh. However, these reports were unverified and lacked confirmation from official UAE sources. Authorities have not released any statements supporting the claim of a visa suspension.

Large Bangladeshi Community in UAE

Md Rashedujjaman, Consul-General of Bangladesh in Dubai and Northern Emirates, highlighted that the Bangladeshi community in the UAE is around one million strong, making it the third-largest expatriate group after Indians and Pakistanis. He noted that Global Media Insight estimates the Bangladeshi population in the UAE at roughly 0.84 million.

Discussions to Ease Visa Processes

Rashedujjaman also mentioned ongoing talks with UAE authorities aimed at making visa processes smoother for Bangladeshi nationals. These discussions are part of efforts to promote deeper integration of the Bangladeshi community into the UAE’s social and economic development initiatives.

No Official Timeline for Restrictions

The false social media reports suggested that starting from 2026, residents of nine countries—including Bangladesh, Libya, Yemen, Somalia, Lebanon, Cameroon, Sudan, and Uganda—would face temporary suspension of tourist and work visas. UAE officials have not confirmed any such plan, and no official timeline for reviewing visa policies has been provided.

Visa Processing Continues Normally

As of now, UAE continues to issue and process visas for Bangladeshi nationals without interruption. Travelers and workers from Bangladesh can continue to apply for visas as usual, and no new rules or restrictions have been introduced. Authorities urge the public to rely only on verified sources for updates regarding visa policies.

Importance of Reliable Information

Officials have emphasized the need to be cautious of misinformation on social media platforms. False news about visa restrictions can cause unnecessary panic and confusion among the expatriate community. The UAE continues to maintain an open and fair visa system for all eligible applicants.

Support for Expatriate Communities

The UAE government remains committed to supporting expatriate communities, including Bangladeshis, by facilitating visa access, work permits, and social integration. This ensures that residents can contribute effectively to the UAE’s economy and society without facing undue obstacles.

Authorities and Bangladeshi representatives continue to monitor the situation and maintain regular communication. The focus remains on strengthening bilateral cooperation, ensuring transparency, and providing clear, official information to the public regarding immigration and visa procedures.
