The Emirates Ski Academy has unveiled its 14th edition of the initiative titled “Our Flag Above The Summit.” This yearly campaign seeks to raise the UAE flag above the world's highest snowy peaks, symbolizing national pride, unity, and aspiration. The program celebrates the country's drive to excel in all areas of achievement and development, not merely in mountaineering.
The announcement was made during a press conference in Dubai, which featured His Excellency Ghanem Mubarak Al Hajeri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Sports; Ibrahim Ali Khadem, founder of the Emirates Ski Academy; and Waleed Fakih, CEO of McDonald’s UAE, a key partner in the UAE Ski Talents Program. The event highlighted the spirit of national collaboration that the campaign seeks to instill.
During the event, His Excellency Ghanem Mubarak Al Hajeri commended the academy for its commitment to this inspiring national effort. He emphasized that the campaign signifies more than just raising a flag on a mountain; it conveys a message of persistence and hope. “It’s not simply about a flag atop a peak,” he remarked, “but a message to the world confirming that Emiratis are capable of ascending to greater heights through diligence and teamwork.”
Al Hajeri noted that the initiative embodies the values of ambition, cooperation, and determination that characterize the Emirati ethos. He expressed hopes that it would motivate young citizens to set lofty goals and strive hard to realize them. “We take pride in this initiative that symbolizes our national values and ambitious spirit. We eagerly anticipate our participants in the Valorance Summit journey, spreading this global message alongside our strategic partners,” he added.
The Emirates Ski Academy is renowned for its commitment to promoting adventure sports among Emiratis, enhancing their skills in skiing, climbing, and other snow-related activities. Through this initiative, the academy not only nurtures physical endurance but also boosts the UAE’s image as a nation that cherishes excellence and international camaraderie.
The “Our Flag Above the Summit” initiative commenced over ten years ago and has evolved into a cherished annual event. Trained Emirati adventurers and athletes carry the UAE flag to snowy peaks worldwide, including locations across Europe and Asia. Each ascent represents a fresh achievement, showcasing the nation’s unrelenting quest for progress and global leadership.
This initiative aspires to inspire youth involvement and global awareness. The Emirates Ski Academy frequently collaborates with schools, sponsors, and organizations to involve young athletes in training and cultural exchange initiatives. By marrying sportsmanship with national pride, the campaign fosters values such as courage, teamwork, and resilience.
This year’s campaign coincides with the preparations for the Valorance Summit Expedition, a new international mountaineering challenge backed by UAE sports and adventure entities. Participants will endeavor to plant the UAE flag on one of the prominent snowy summits, marking another significant achievement for the Emirates Ski Academy and the nation's sports movement.
Waleed Fakih, CEO of McDonald’s UAE, expressed pride in supporting this initiative. He stated, “We are privileged to partner with the Emirates Ski Academy in supporting young Emirati athletes to attain excellence and represent our nation proudly on the global stage.” Fakih emphasized that such initiatives inspire future generations to embrace active lifestyles while honoring national identity.
Over the years, the “Our Flag Above the Summit” initiative has become a beacon of Emirati unity, pride, and resilience. It signifies the country’s belief that success entails collaboration, persistence, and a vision that transcends boundaries. Each time the flag waves atop a snow-capped peak, it serves as a reminder of the UAE’s journey—from the desert to the summits—driven by the spirit that has crafted a modern, ambitious nation.
The Emirates Ski Academy remains steadfast in its mission to promote sports participation, adventure training, and national pride among Emiratis. With robust backing from government bodies and private sector allies, the academy intends to broaden its global presence and motivate more youth to represent the UAE in upcoming international sports contests.
