The team brought home a total of eight medals—four gold, two silver, and two bronze—solidifying their position atop the jiu-jitsu medal standings.
The final day of competition showcased a lineup of fierce national teams. However, the UAE athletes demonstrated their unmatched strength and readiness. Khaled Al Shehhi initiated the medal tally by securing gold in the 62kg division, followed by Shamma Al Kalbani, who snagged gold in the 63kg category. Asma Al Hosani also added a gold medal in the 52kg division, while Mahdi Al Awlaqi achieved a silver in the 77kg category.
The UAE team emerged victorious, finishing first overall, with Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia taking the second and third spots, respectively. A notable accomplishment for the UAE was that all eight athletes on the team reached the podium, showcasing their flawless performance. This triumph highlights the extensive preparation and robust support system behind each athlete.
Team officials remarked that this achievement underscores the exceptional quality of training programs and the synergy between athletes and their coaches. The success resulted from months of rigorous training and strategic approaches, which ultimately propelled the UAE to these remarkable victories.
Abdulmunem Alsayed Mohammed Alhashmi, Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation and a prominent figure in international jiu-jitsu circles, commended the team for their impressive performance. He stated that Emirati jiu-jitsu is gaining global recognition, attributing this success to the unwavering support from the country’s leadership. He emphasized that the accomplishments noticed across various platforms, including the Asian Youth Games and the World Championship in Thailand, indicate the operational prowess of the UAE as a cohesive unit.
He acknowledged the vital role played by families, clubs, and partners of the federation in uplifting the athletes. Their unwavering discipline and dedication enable the athletes to proudly represent the UAE. Furthermore, he expressed gratitude towards the technical, medical, and administrative staff, whose collaborative efforts empower athletes to excel.
Head Coach Helder Medeiros shared his delight regarding the team’s performance, stating the results reflect substantial progress made by the athletes in recent months. Their determination and competitive mindset allowed them to compete fiercely against seasoned rivals. He noted that the UAE team has proven its mettle on both national and international stages, especially visible after their recent achievements at the JJIF World Championships in Thailand.
Gold medallist Khaled Al Shehhi emphasized the value of teamwork in achieving success, noting that his medal is a product of collective effort rather than individual achievement. He expressed a profound sense of duty to represent the UAE, highlighting that their success symbolizes unity and inspires the team to strive for excellence in future competitions.
