Dubai: UAE ended their T20 World Cup 2026 campaign with a six-wicket defeat against South Africa at Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi, on Wednesday.
Chasing a modest target of 123, South Africa comfortably reached the score in just 13.2 overs, losing only four wickets. Proteas captain Aiden Markram gave his team a strong start with 28 runs, while Ryan Rickelton contributed 30 runs off 16 balls, including three fours and two sixes. Dewald Brevis added 36 runs off 25 balls, featuring a four and three sixes.
UAE, batting first, started well as openers Aryansh Sharma (13) and captain Muhammad Waseem (22) put together a 38-run opening partnership. Alishan Sharafu played a crucial knock of 45 runs from 38 balls, hitting five boundaries and a six, helping UAE reach 122 for six in 20 overs.
For South Africa, Corbin Bosch was the standout bowler, taking three wickets for just 12 runs in his four overs. Anrich Nortje also contributed by picking up two wickets.
This defeat left UAE with only one win in the tournament, against Canada. South Africa maintained a perfect record in Group D, winning all four of their matches.
